Poultry industry is growing at a tremendous pace. This has been made possible particularly by rapid progress in the fields of Genetics. & nutrition. Genetic potential of poultry is increasing with each passing day & under these circumstances it becomes imperative to reassess the nutritional requirements to bridge the gap between the genetic improvement & nutritional requirement. Since main cost in the raising of poultry is the feed, which is mainly soya 7 maize based. During past few years. there has been a sharp rise in the prices of these feed stocks. This poses a threat, to the poultry industry as such. it is in this scenario, that other cheap alternatives becomes relevant(like barley etc) But the problem with such cheap alternatives is that they contain heavy amounts of indigestible matter & poultry can't produce necessary enzymes to degrade them. This indigestible matter includes Non-Starch polysaccharides (NSPs). Phytates. & other antinutritional factors like lectins, tannins etc. These plant residues particularly NSP & Phytates lock down the nutrients, increase viscosity of the gut contents. this combined with many other chemical processes result in lower FCR, wet litter. deficiency diseases. stress. increases chances of important poultry diseases like Necrotic Enteritis.
